Voyant takes place in a world where telepaths and humans live amongst each other.
In this world, telepaths do not simply read minds. They use thoughts, emotions, and memories from others to create their own sort of magic. Any telepath can collect traces of emotions that have been left behind by people throughout the day. As one advances in skill, they travel into others’ minds in order to collect thoughts and memories.
The human mind is complex and delicate. One must be highly skilled, patient, and vigilant when traveling to another’s mind in order to maintain the sanity of both the person they are traveling through as well as themselves. If one becomes stuck in someone else’s mind for too long, they may forget who they are completely. (It is not uncommon for Aleena to find inexperienced psychics rotting amongst her patients’ minds.)
Some telepaths travel through people’s minds in order to heal them. Others for personal gain. Often, those who steal from others’ minds tend to be scavenging for memories to sell. This improper removal of concrete memories causes immense and occasionally irreversible damage to their subject’s minds.
Aleena is a telepathic healer who dedicates her time to helping those who have had their memories improperly tampered with, as well as people with mental disorders. She works around the belief that the human mind is a powerful thing that can heal itself when pointed in the right direction.
